Truth or Tradition?
Some sign of a religious spirit:
1. It is more committed to religious tradition than obeying the Scripture (Matt 15:2-9)
2. Live for the approval of men rather than for God (John 5:44)
3. It thinks it can gain God’s approval by doing certain religious things (Gal 5:1-6)
4. Will often see as his/her primary mission as correcting what is wrong in the church and find ways to criticize the pastor and those around him. (Luke 7:37-39)
5. Dismisses spiritual manifestations and realities as untrue, emotional, or fanatical.
6. Rejects God-given authority, (protection) and structure (1 Pet 2:13-16)
7. Finds it very difficult to repent and see its own wrongs. Will always shift the blame to others and seldom take responsibility for own sins.
8. Tries to impress through speech, either abnormal tone of speaking or trying to impress with
big religious terminology.
9. Will have the tendency to resist and oppose anything new in the church.
10. Will adopt a philosophy that will not listen to men, but “only to God”
11. Will resist a Godly rebuke from individuals that they judge less “spiritually” mature.
12. Thrives on recognition and the approval of men (Matt 6:5)
13. When you constantly measure your spiritual life with others.
14. Will make excuses that none of this list applies to them.
15. Will think of other individuals while reading this list. Such a person is in reality unteachable.
