Melting Point
For chocolate it’s 25°C, for platinum it’s 1768,3°C. What’s it going to take to melt your heart?Vantage Point is not a tennis club or a Rotary club…or anything even remotely resembling that kind of thing. Vantage Point is a gathering of people who have one thing in common – at some point in their lives, they received a revelation of who God is. This encounter changed their lives. In some cases, people were raised up from deadly diseases; in other cases they were delivered from strong enemies. In every case, these people were made aware of the fact that God was offering them a clean page, a fresh start, a second chance.

WHO DO YOU SAY I AM?
Jesus knew He was asking a difficult question when He posed this one to His disciples. (Read all about it in Matthew 16). They had spent years with Him, witnessing the miracles He did, observing His lifestyle, receiving His teaching. And now Jesus was asking them this question “who do you say I am?” to see if His heavenly Father had yet revealed His true identity to His followers.
One of the most, if not the most, important question in the world to answer is this: who is Jesus? The identity of Jesus is one of the most closely-guarded secrets in the Gospels – open only to those who have ‘eyes to see and ears to hear’.
Initially Jesus revealed His identity in hidden ways, through parables and by fulfilling Old Testament Messianic prophecies. However, when Peter received the revelation from the Father as to Jesus’ true identity (Matthew 16: 13-20), Jesus then began to speak openly to His disciples.
Peter replied “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Who is the Christ? It’s not Jesus’ surname; Christ is the Greek form of the Hebrew word Messiah – it means ‘anointed one’, a term commonly used in the Old Testament to describe kings, or others, who were specially selected by God to perform a certain task on His behalf. The Old Testament speaks of a king who is to come from David’s line who will rule on God’s behalf forever – the Messiah, or anointed one. Jesus testifies that He is this long-awaited King.
Jesus is the King of the Jews.
Peter also said that He was the Son of God (another term for king) but Jesus often referred to Himself as the Son of Man. Why? Jesus was making reference to the Son of Man first written about by Daniel in Daniel 7. In his vision, Daniel encountered the Son of Man and was told that “all peoples, nations and languages will serve” this Son of Man and that His “dominion is an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away (His) kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed”. To his Jewish hearers, Jesus is clearly declaring Himself to be the long-awaited Messiah. “you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One…” He said in Matthew 26: 64Jesus is the eternal King of all the earth and every nation.
It has become known as the Last Supper. (Read all about it in Luke 22: 20) During this solemn Passover gathering Jesus revealed His true identity...He is the true sacrifice for sin, the true Passover lamb. What did the disciples think when He shared the cup of wine with them, a prophetic symbol of His own blood, and declared that the New Covenant spoken of by the prophet Jeremiah in Jeremiah 31: 31 would be written in His own blood? His Jewish hearers knew something that Gentile believers tend to forget – without the shedding of blood, there can be no forgiveness of sins. See yourself at that supper table. Picture yourself sharing that cup with Jesus. He is the only one ordained by God to be your Saviour. Accept his sacrifice. Dry your tears. Live for him.Jesus is your Saviour. Your sins had carved out a death sentence for you in God’s eyes but Jesus took your place on the cross.
You’re forgiven and free to go.
Oh...one more thing. The apostle John speaks of Jesus in these words “In the beginning was the Word; and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”Jesus is God.
